Youngistaan's entry to the Oscars as an in dependent film under the Best Foreign Language Film category sent the online world into a tweeting overdrive on Friday , as Bollywood fans and Jackky Bhagnani critics took to social media to express their shock, anger and disbelief at the development, causing Youngistaan to trend on Twitter in India. “Youngistaan on Oscar List of Possibles? WHAT? Ok.
No comments (sic),“ tweeted one Rozelle Laha (@rozelle_l). But that was one of the more milder reactions on Twitter.
“...I'm happy that atleast someone will watch `Youngistaan' now. No one even realised when it released & flopped,“ tweeted one Mihir Bijur (@MihirBijur). Another dig at the movie that found many re-tweeters read, “Calm down, Youngistaan is nominated for Oscars in `The kind of movie one should never make' category .“
Some of those reactions stemmed from the misconception that the film had actually been nominated for the Oscars. The truth, however, is that the film has only been sent to the prestigious film awards as a private entry . Any film that has had a theatrical release in the US lasting a week can send its entry to the Oscars.
Some people even tried to clarify that on Twitter: “Abeyaar qualified for Oscars means aapne diya form, hamne le liye submission. That's it,“ wrote CilemaSnob Is Now (@NotSoSnob).
But that didn't stop people from trolling Bhagnani. “Jackky Bhagnaani's Youngistaan is not India's Official Entry for Oscar. It is Private entry . Let Jury watch. Why should only Indians Suffer (sic),“ wrote one Joy Das (@Joydas).
