Veteran star
Zeenat Aman has never shied away from expressing unconventional opinions, both on and off screen. Known for redefining glamour in Bollywood through films like ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’, ‘Don’ and ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, the actress once made headlines for candidly sharing her views on relationships and marriage during her appearance on the chat show ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’.
During the conversation with Simi Garewal, Zeenat spoke honestly about her personal life and admitted that marriage was no longer something she wanted for herself. Sharing her thoughts, the actress said, “I don't think I will ever get married again. And I definitely won't have any more children.” Her statement reflected a deeply personal perspective shaped by her past experiences and losses.
Zeenat Aman supported relationships without marriage
When Simi Garewal asked if she was content being single, Zeenat challenged the traditional idea that happiness is connected to marriage. According to her, companionship and emotional connection do not necessarily require legal commitments. Explaining her viewpoint, she remarked, “Am I happy being single? See, you have to qualify being single as opposed to being married. You can have a relationship without being married. I never want to get married again.”
The actress further reflected on life, relationships and emotional independence while speaking about the deaths of her mother and late husband Mazhar Khan. Zeenat explained how those experiences changed her understanding of permanence and attachment. “With my mother's passing, and with Mazhar's passing, he was a young man, 42 years old, when he died. What is permanent in this life? There's nothing that's permanent. Why should we assume that any relationship is going to be permanent?” She shared during the interview. She also added that even children eventually grow up and create lives of their own, making self-reliance emotionally important.
Why Zeenat Aman preferred relationships based on choice
Zeenat Aman further explained that she believed relationships work better when people stay together out of love and choice rather than because of social obligations or legal commitments. “I think that there is more respect in a relationship when it is not bound by, you know, signatures and tradition and laws and rules. You are with each other because you want to be and because you choose to be, not because you have to be,” she stated.
Reflecting on her marriage, the actress concluded, “I think that's what happened to me in my marriage. I was completely taken for granted.”
Zeenat Aman continues to inspire conversations
Over the years, Zeenat Aman has remained admired not only for her iconic performances in films like ‘Qurbani’, ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’ and ‘Dostana’, but also for her fearless honesty. Even decades later, her views on relationships, independence and individuality continue to resonate with many people across generations.
