Working for a cause!

Gulzar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are moved by Teach India.
Working for a cause!
Its for very good reason that teaching is considered a noble profession.
While technology and the information superhighway has put a vast body of knowledge at our fingertips, literally, there still remains a huge task that of filling the malleable minds of underprivileged children with knowledge that will hold them in good stead all through life.
And doing this is an ad film for Teach India written by JWTs Agnello Dias and directed by Milind Dhaimade. That has music by hitmaking trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by Gulzar. With the Teach India vignette booming through the studios speakers, the four settle down to chat about what they feel about the need to educate underprivileged kids.
We have to give back to people and this, for me, is a very natural human response. We owe this to the children, we have to do this for the society, says Gulzar. And the lyrics to the film explain this beautifully. Aadhe aadhe ho, poore bano saare. Dhoondo apna aadha hissa, aur kaho, aare aare aare! he adds, explaining that where one is the teacher and one is the learner, this is about finding completion in oneself, via the act of giving. In this case, giving knowledge.
Gulzar has been a pioneer of sorts in this noble endeavour, having spent considerable time disseminating knowledge to children in as far as Bhopal, the result of which is a school for underprivileged kids in Mumbai called Koshish. While Loy Mendonsa adds, A lot of learning by students these days is done by rote. Students should be able to answer in the way they want to answer.
While Ehsaan Noorani believes that all children have in them an innate desire to learn. There are kids who go to night school and sell books at traffic lights by day, he says. Shankar Mahadevan adds, People will now have an outlet for their desire to teach underprivileged children.
This is going to enrich the lives of so many kids who have that seed of knowledge thats waiting to germinate, continues Gulzar. And on a lighter note, they conclude, How about teaching music as well?
