Over the years, Bollywood’s villains have undergone a makeover – they are suave and sometimes, even take away the limelight from the hero. However, Freddy Daruwala – who played the antagonist in Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty and

Race 3

– says that nowadays there is no such thing as a villain or hero. Talking to us during his Jaipur visit, Freddy said, “I feel there is no such thing as a villain or hero. In a lot of films now, villains are portrayed as heroes. In today’s time, the content can be driven from either the hero or the villain’s perspective. If you are the centre of the film or script, you become the hero, it doesn’t matter if you do good or evil things in the film.”

He also mentioned the importance of negative characters in films. “You can’t have black without white. Negative characters or villains, as they are often called, are equally important in the film as without them, there wouldn’t be any heroic moment,” Freddy said.

Having played negative characters in the past, Freddy desires to do positive roles too. “I have done positive roles in Force 2 and Commando 2, but it was after Holiday and Race 3 that I got recognition in the mainstream. Soon, I might do some positive characters,” he said.

The actor has recently become a father. Talking about how life has changed now, Freddy said, “My life has become more focused and channelized after I became a father. It’s a very beautiful feeling. A child brings in a lot of positivity, fun element and enthusiasm in the family. I have become a better, more responsible and family-oriented than I was earlier.”

The actor shared his love for Jaipur and said, “I shot for my debut film Sher in Jaipur with Sanjay Dutt. The film didn’t hit the theatres though. I stayed in Jaipur for around 60 days at that time and got to explore the city to the fullest. Jaipur is one of my favourite cities in the country. To me, this city is all about royalty, heritage, colours and great food!”
