Why Harshdeep Kaur was the only celeb performer at DeepVeer’s wedding

'Dilbaro' singer Harshdeep Kaur was the only celebrity to perform at the top-secret Lake Como wedding of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh last November. And now, she has told us the reason – Ranveer wakes up to her rendition of 'Ik Onkar' from 'Rang De Basanti' everyday. “Ranveer is a sweetheart. He told me that he starts his morning with my song 'Ik Onkar' from 'Rang De Basanti'. He said that since this was the most important day of his life, he wanted me to sing this song before his Anand Karaj ceremony,” Harshdeep tells us.
The Delhi-born singer, who moved to Mumbai after completing school, also credits the education she got here for her success in

. “Studying in Delhi really helped me with my Hindi pronunciation. A lot of people come from various places and they don’t have as good a command over Hindi as their local dialect, so for me, it was an advantage. Meri Hindi ka talaffuz achha hai,” says Harshdeep, who studied in Springdales School, Pusa Road and (for a few years) New Era Public School, Mayapuri. On being asked how she polished her Urdu, the singer replies, “Since childhood, I’ve been listening to Jagjit Singh’s ghazals.”
