Why Emraan Hashmi didn't want to hear the script of Azhar

This Friday, Emraan Hashmi's 'Azhar', which has him playing Mohammad Azharuddin, will hit screens. But days before its release, the actor told a newspaper that he initially didn't want to hear the film's script.

In an interview, Emraan said that when he was first told a biopic on Azhar was being made, he didn't want to listen to the script, primarily because the cricketer had rejected its first draft in 2013. But then, he read the draft a year later and gave the team his nod. So, the actor decided to greenlight the project.

A source close to the team says, "Azhar was skeptical because he felt everyone knew about his life. And then, the makers had to convince him that it would be a positive film and people can enjoy it."

'Azhar', directed by Tony D'Souza, also stars Prachi Desai as Naureen (Azhar's first wife), Nargis Fakhri as Sangeeta Bijlani (the cricketer's second wife), Lara Dutta, Gautam Gulati and Manjot Singh among other.
