Who’s the next star?

With five much-hyped guys making their debut this year, TOI does a reality check and finds who has the required X-factor and staying power to be the next big 'sitaara'.
Who’s the next star?
Harman Baweja (TOI Photo) More picsThey have the right credentials, debut vehicles and connections.
But not all have managed to make it big on the silver screen. As the two big debutantes of the year Harman Baweja and Imraan Khan get ready to try their luck at the BO, we make a filmi jury look at the men and their movies. And this is their verdict...
Harman Baweja
The next big thing?
Nobody has seen his work but Harman Baweja and his Love Story 2050 have the judges excited.
1x1 polls
Says actress Sameera Reddy, Harman is a fab dancer, is very expressive and is looking good on screen.
Film critic Anupama Chopra is expecting starry things from him too. There are too many movies and not enough stars in the industry. Harman looks like a promising debutante who can fill that slot. He isnt run of the mill!

Designer Rocky S is also betting on Harman but has a word of advice. His good body language and the ability to carry off both Indian and western clothes will take him far. However, he should keep his looks individualistic as comparisons to Hrithik might keep coming his way.
Rajeev Khandelwal
Hes different!
While Rajeev has made his debut, the jury is still out on him. He is convincing in the role and a good actor, says film critic Anupama Chopra. He is extremely popular with the masses because of his TV background and his fans are likely to support him. He is blessed with good looks and decent acting skills too, adds designer Rocky S. However, Deepak Taluja, senior VP, Operations, of a multiplex chain, says, Despite being one of the hottest stars on the Indian telly scene, Rajeev has not been very successful in pulling the crowds. The story isnt clicking with everybody.
Imraan Khan
The chocolate hero
If Harman has star power in form of good friend Priyanka Chopra, Imraan has uncle Aamir Khan backing him. And Aamirs old slot of the chocolate hero is what our judges see him filling too. He looks fresh and has boyish charm, and the industry doesnt have anybody in that age group. He is the teenybopper who can comfortably fill that slot, says director Onir.
Sameera agrees, He is exactly how Aamir was when he made his debut in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Im sure Imraan will succeed like his mentor uncle.
Rocky, however, feels he should not fall in a rut. He should not get stuck with those kind of roles only. He needs to experiment.
Sikander Kher
Undone by script
One of the watched-out-for debutantes of the year, Sikander has lost out because of the performance of his launch vehicle, Woodstock Villa. He needs to watch the films he is signing. He needs to go for good scripts, says Anupama.
He is not the conventional looking hero and needs to style himself well, says Rocky.
Deepak has a more critical take. He says, If you look good, can dance well and say your dialogues clearly you have a place in Bollywood. Sikander doesnt score very high in the first two categories.
Mimoh
No impact
The verdict is out: Mithuns son failed to make an impact. His film was just not exciting, says Onir. Anupama agrees, His first film got him no marks at all. It looked like an 80s film. However, they want to see another film before the final decision is given.
His father has always been a brilliant actor and dancer, so comparisons are bound to happen. The industry probably needs to give him more time to prove his potential. He should work on his styling and create a niche look for himself, explains Rocky.
