When Sridevi decided to leave Chiranjeevi's film due to title preference for his character

Actress Sridevi found success across both the South Indian and Bollywood industries, and she had a strong persona in her films. She shared the screen with Megastar Chiranjeevi in Telugu films, where their on-screen chemistry was widely praised. However, one particular incident led to Sridevi walking away from a film with Chiranjeevi due to a title-related disagreement.

Director Kodandarami Reddy and writers Paruchuri Brothers planned to make the film 'Kondaveeti Donga' with Chiranjeevi. They envisioned a powerful female character and believed Sridevi was the perfect fit to portray a strong-willed police officer. Given her acting prowess, she seemed like the ideal choice for the role.

However, when Sridevi was approached for the film, she made a unique request—she wanted the film’s title to reflect her character’s importance. According to Koimoi, she requested the makers to name it 'Kondaveeti Rani' to ensure her role was highlighted. Since Chiranjeevi was the primary lead, the filmmakers found it difficult to accommodate her demand.



As both sides failed to reach an agreement, Sridevi opted out of the project. Vijayashanti was then roped in to play the role, and the film was eventually released as 'Kondaveeti Donga'. The movie turned out to be a massive success, further solidifying the careers of Chiranjeevi and Vijayashanti.


Sridevi later shared the screen with Chiranjeevi in 'Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari', which became a blockbuster.

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi recently made headlines for his remark about having many female members in his family while he and his son, actor Ram Charan, are the only male members. He expressed his wish for a baby boy if his son plans to have another child. Ram Charan’s firstborn is a girl. Social media users found his remark sexist and began criticising the actor.
