Sanjay Dutt’s legal troubles following the 1993 Mumbai blasts were a turbulent time for his family, particularly his father, the late actor and politician Sunil Dutt. At a recent biography launch event for producer Rajan Lall, veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha expressed sadness over Sanjay’s absence and his behaviour of distancing himself from their lives today. However, there was a time when he shared his love and prayers for Sanjay, who was diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer.

On August 13, 2020, Shatrughan extended his support to Sanjay, who had been diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer. Calling the actor a fighter, Sinha expressed his confidence that Dutt would overcome this challenge just as he had in the past.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sinha shared two nostalgic photographs with the ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ actor and conveyed his heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery. "Disturbing news! Healing prayers for our own @duttsanjay, who is a fighter & as his wife Maanayata & family say, he will return a winner this time too. Amen. He is the worthy son of the nation’s favourite—actor, parliamentarian, social & political activist, a true nationalist—the late & great #SunilDutt. Hope, wish & pray, Sanju, for your smooth & fast recovery. God Bless! Love & profound regards to the family," he wrote.

Dutt, who was admitted to hospital on August 8 after experiencing breathlessness, was discharged on August 10. Shortly after, he revealed that he would be taking a break from work to focus on his health. His wife, Maanayata Dutt, later addressed fans with a message of gratitude and strength.

"We need all the strength and prayers to overcome this phase. There is a lot that the family has gone through in the past years, but I am confident this too shall pass," she said in her statement. She also urged Dutt’s fans to steer clear of speculation and baseless rumours.
