When Salman Khan made peace with Arijit Singh just months before the singer’s retirement announcement, 'Jo misunderstanding thi, meri side se thi'
It was one of those Weekend Ka Vaar moments that stayed with fans. During Bigg Boss 19, a light-hearted joke by comedian Ravi Gupta unexpectedly led Salman Khan to address his long-rumoured fallout with Arijit Singh. When Ravi quipped that he was nervous because he “looks like Arijit Singh,” Salman laughed — and then surprised everyone with an honest confession.
“Arijit aur main bahut acche dost hai. Jo misunderstanding thi, meri side se thi. Uske baad usne gaane bhi kiye mere liye. Tiger me kiya tha, ab Galwan me kar raha hai,” Salman said, publicly owning up to the past and confirming that the two had long moved on.
Things finally changed when Arijit sang Le Ke Prabhu Ka Naam in Tiger 3 (2023), widely seen as a sign that the ice had melted. Salman’s Bigg Boss statement later felt like closure — a full stop to an old chapter.
That throwback has now taken on a deeper emotional weight. In a move that shocked the music industry, Arijit Singh has announced his retirement from playback singing. In a social media note, he wrote, “Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners… I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
From a 2014 fallout to reconciliation — and then a farewell
The misunderstanding dated back to a 2014 award show, when Salman teasingly asked Arijit, “Were you asleep?” and the singer replied, “You guys put me to sleep.” What was meant as humour reportedly didn’t land well. In 2016, Arijit apologised publicly and even requested that his song be retained in Sultan, but reports of his tracks being dropped from Salman’s films kept the fallout narrative alive.Things finally changed when Arijit sang Le Ke Prabhu Ka Naam in Tiger 3 (2023), widely seen as a sign that the ice had melted.
