'I was absolutely stunned': When Rakesh Roshan recalled the moment his father asked him to take Hrithik Roshan on set

The Roshans, which released on January 17, 2025, is a biographical series that traces the family’s eight-decade journey in Bollywood. It begins with music composer Roshan Lal Nagrath, then moves to his sons, composer Rajesh Roshan and director-actor Rakesh Roshan, and finally to his grandson, Hrithik Roshan. Before the launch of the series, the makers released a short video featuring the three Roshans revisiting old memories through a family album. When Hrithik comes across a photo from his assisting days on 'Koyla', Rakesh shares the story behind it.

Hrithik’s early days working behind the scenes

One of the photos takes the trio back to the sets of a major 90s action film, during the time Hrithik worked as an assistant. The memory brings a soft smile to his face as he recalls his learning years and says, “My assistant days… and this was Koyla.” It was a period of quiet observation and steady growth.


Rakesh Roshan then shares a candid moment about how Hrithik found his way into the crew, recalling his father’s words: “Daddy, yeh kahaan kaam karega… Le le, tere saath chup-chaap rahta hai…” . The nostalgia deepens as he remembers Hrithik’s first moment in front of the camera: “When he gave his first shot, I was absolutely stunned.” Rajesh adds affectionately, “Tab tak aa gaya tha uske andar…”.

The film marked Hrithik’s acting debut and became a turning point for the family. It won Best Film, Best Director for Rakesh Roshan, and Best Actor as well as Most Promising Newcomer for Hrithik. The photo shows the trio standing together among many more cherished moments.

Hrithik’s work ahead

Hrithik Roshan was last seen in 'War 2' with Jr NTR. He will next be seen in the superhero sequel 'Krrish 4', which is scheduled to begin filming in 2026. He will also appear in a cameo in the upcoming spy film 'Alpha'.
