When Raj Kapoor opened up on affair with Nargis and how his wife Krishna reacted to it: 'My actress is not my wife'

Raj Kapoor was rumoured to be dating many women, however, his affair with Nargis continues to be the most spoken about. Reportedly, the film-maker, actor was involved with Nargis for seven years despite being married to Krishna Raj Kapoor. The duo had fallen in love on the sets of 'Shree 420'. Once Kapoor had spoken about Nargis cryptically, without taking her name. He had also spoken about how he had made things very clear with his wife Krishna.

Raj had said in a documentary produced by Prasar Bharti, chronicling about Nargis, "She was very young. Angelic, absolutely… What a great actress she was. Films, for me, meant a complete, absolute, dedicated devotion and belonging. So, anybody and anything that revolved around it, very much became a part of my being. And I must say that (Nargis) contributed a lot to what RK (Studio) is."

He had further clarified that the women in his life were perhaps secure about the fact that they were not substitutes to each other and had their own position in his life. He had said, "Right from the very beginning, from the word go, I drew a line. And it’s a very, very straight fact that my wife is not my actress and my actress is not my wife. By my wife, I mean the mother of my children. So, my home life, somewhere or the other, was there. Krishna was the mother of my children. While here was my actress. She would share, and have that satisfaction of having contributed to my creativity. That is her satisfaction,” he stated, implying that he never intended to marry Nargis and wished to simply maintain an affair with her while safeguarding his family as his ultimate priority."

However, Kapoor was always sure that he would not leave his wife and marry Nargis. Thus, eventually Nargis got married to Sunil Dutt. Reports suggest that Kapoor was devastated when she got married and also burnt himself with cigerrettes.
