In 2015, Priyanka Chopra had tweeted about films being ‘held to ransom’ and ‘actors being used as political pawns’. This was around the time when Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dilwale and her own film Bajirao Mastani were targeted by fringe groups.

Elaborating about her tweet, the actress told a news portal that this is not what the India she grew up in taught her. Priyanka added that she was told Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Isai bhai-bhai every day in her school assembly. She said that she tweeted because 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Dilwale' were releasing and there was so much going on about bans and boycotts, based on religion.



Priyanka also added that everybody warned her to watch her words. The actress also stated that she was concerned about being told to ‘leave the country’ or apologise, or being called ‘anti-national’.



In her original tweet, she had written, “I can’t help staying silent on this anymore.. It’s too sad to see how films and actors become political pawns! Bans based on baseless propaganda.. Holding films ransom just before they release so that publicity can be garnered for certain agendas by forcing a producer to their knees.. How does no one speak up for what is right? How is this fair?”

Priyanka will next be seen in Farhan Akhtar's 'Jee Le Zaraa' where she will be sharing the screen space with Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif for the first time. Apart from this, she also has 'Citadel 2' in the pipeline.
