When Madhuri Dixit's son felt weird seeing her high on drugs in a song, her husband revealed she gets uncomfortable watching her movies with family
Madhuri Dixit got married in 1999 with Dr Sriram Nene and moved to the US. But it was quite difficult for her to get used to it and lead a normal life as there are many Indians all over the world who would recognise her. She had opened up about it in an interview and also revealed why she doesn't like to watch her own movies with her family, especially children.
In an old interview, Madhuri admitted to feeling completely out of place when she moved to USA. She had said in an interview with NDTV, "Indians are everywhere. Some of them did recognise me, when I would go grocery shopping. Sometimes, you meet another Indian when you’re picking up tamatar and gobi. They were so courteous and so nice, they’d just tell me that they love my movies. They’d respect the fact that it was my private moment and that I should be left alone. But sometimes, it would get scary for me, because I’d just started driving there. I would struggle to find addresses, because I’d never done that in India. Here, a driver would just take me where I wanted to go, but there, I had to find my own way. Those were the times when I’d hope someone recognises me and tells me that I’m going the wrong way.”
She had revealed how her sons felt weird on seeing her get high on drugs in the song 'Bhang Ke Nashe Mein' from 'Koyla'. She recalled, "My kids get a little skittish when they’re watching my movies. They were watching Koyla on TV, and I left. When I returned, I saw a note on the computer. It said, ‘Dear mom, why are you acting so weird in this movie?'”
Dr Nene added further in the same interview that they 'dont talk shop' which means that Madhuri wouldn't bring home her stardom. He added, "All of her awards and stuff were kept at the office. She doesn’t want the kids, or us, to be affected. I’ve been to some of her film premieres, but she’s not very comfortable watching her films with family. So, watching them separately is an odd thing."
Now Madhuri has moved back to Mumbai with her husband and has also gotten back to working here.
