An old video of Bollywood actress Kiara Advani has resurfaced online, sparking debates among netizens. In the clip, Kiara refers to herself as a “nobody” and expresses gratitude towards filmmaker Karan Johar for believing in her during her initial days in the industry. The video, originally from the promotions of her film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, also features her co-star Kartik Aaryan. The resurfaced video has reignited discussions about privilege and the concept of being an “outsider” in Bollywood.

Kartik mentioned that many people in the film industry now attempt to portray themselves as “outsiders.” This statement, paired with Kiara’s comments, didn’t sit well with several social media users, who criticized her for downplaying her privileged background.

One Reddit user highlighted Kiara’s connections, saying, “Salman Khan gave her the name Kiara. She’s best friends with the daughter of India’s richest man, is Saeed Jaffrey’s granddaughter, and Ashok Kumar’s step-great-granddaughter. Her step-aunt is an assistant director, and Juhi Chawla is a family friend. With such strong industry ties, why does she want to be an ‘outsider’?”

Another user compared Kiara to Shraddha Kapoor, a fellow actress also perceived to have familial connections in the industry. “If Shraddha Kapoor can be an outsider, then why can’t Kiara?” one comment read. A more critical remark stated, “Kiara doesn’t seem genuine in her interviews. She acts like a saint, but there’s something pretentious about the way she speaks.”

The video resurfaced amidst the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which stars Kartik Aaryan and Triptii Dimri. Many fans initially speculated that Kiara might make a cameo in the sequel since she starred in the franchise’s 2022 installment. However, the actress did not appear in the film.

The discussion has once again brought attention to Bollywood’s ongoing debates about nepotism, privilege, and what it truly means to be an “outsider” in the film industry. Critics argue that actors with influential family ties and connections should acknowledge their privilege instead of claiming to have started with nothing.
