When Abhishek Bachchcan couldn't afford new clothes: wore sherwani made for his sister wedding to an award function

Abhishek Bachchan has been one of the most diligent actors of his generation, having delivered hits like Dhoom, Guru, Yuva, Sarkar etc. He was outstanding in this year's release Ghoomer as Coach Paddy and has gained a lot of applause for his performance. But there was also a time when he didn’t have money to buy new clothes, this was when his father Amitabh Bachchan’s company ABCL had crashed.Abhishek has returned to help out his father and had begun working as a production assistant and assistant director, while he always had dreams of becoming a movie star.

Abhishek ended up revealing that one time that he attended an award function with his father and that changed his life. During his conversation with Gallata Plus, he mentioned that about 20 years ago, for Filmfare awards one would plan months in advance about what they would wear as back then there was no concept of designers or stylists giving away free clothes. He added that this happened during the phase when his family was struggling financially and he didn’t have anything formal to wear for the award and there wasn’t a possibility of him buying anything new and they couldn’t; his family was trying to be as frugal as possible.
Abhishek also shared that it would have looked odd if he’s shown up wearing t-shirt and denims so ended up wearing the sherwani he had got made a few years ago for his sister’s wedding. And it was at that award night, JP Dutta spotted him wearing the sherwani and 2 days later asked him to meet him and all things led to Refugee.
