'Welcome To The Jungle' director Ahmed Khan calls Akshay Kumar, Disha Patani starrer 'black dark situational humour'; release planned for mid-next year
Choreographer-filmmaker Ahmed Khan has offered a fresh and intriguing update on 'Welcome To The Jungle', the much-anticipated third instalment of the iconic 'Welcome' franchise. Unlike the laugh-out-loud comedy tone associated with the earlier films, Ahmed Khan has clarified that this chapter takes a drastically different route.
Ahmed Khan opens up about 'Welcome To The Jungle'In a conversation with Pinkvilla, he described the film as “black dark situational humour” and emphasised that it is not a typical comedy or slapstick entertainer. According to him, producer Firoz Nadiadwala has been keen on steering the film away from conventional comedy to explore humour rooted in serious, complex situations.
Khan also stressed that the film should not be mistaken for a full-on comedy despite being a part of a franchise known for chaos-filled humour. Instead, the narrative relies on tension-based, situational laughs, where seriousness becomes the foundation of humour. Despite this shift, the movie still carries the trademark scale of the franchise. The film promises grand sets, high-energy sequences and the engaging madness audiences expect from a Welcome film.
Khan stated, "It’s a black dark situational humour. It’s not a comedy. The producer always says we should not make comedy films. Firoz Nadiadwala believes in dark humor and situational humor. And of course, it’s serious cinema: not a comedy or slapstick." Moreover, shedding light on the premiere schedule. We are almost at the end. By January, it will be wrapped up. We are planning to release the film by mid next year."
Massive star cast, massive scheduling challengesWith a star-studded lineup including Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor and several others, coordinating schedules proved to be one of the biggest hurdles.
'Welcome To The Jungle' shoot nearing completion, release target lockedThe filmmaker confirmed that 'Welcome To The Jungle' is now in its final stage, with the shoot expected to be wrapped up by January. The team is aiming for a mid-2026 release.
