Watch out! Kanpur is getting very filmi...
Who says films can only be made in Mumbai? Out to question this filmi fact is Kanpurite Pankaj Srivastava and his band of friends, all theatre artistes, is ready with “Pratikaar”, a film made entirely in Kanpur.
“My film, “Pratikaar”, the story of political conspiracy, has been made in Kanpur without any outsourcing. Almost 20 actors from the city have acted in it and our technical team is also from Kanpur.

We have shot the film in Kanpur and the three songs in the films have been written, composed and sung in Kanpur by people of the city,” informs Srivastava.
Ask Pankaj that how he planned of making a film in Kanpur and he replies, “I have been associated with theatre for long and always wanted to make a film. Even then, despite the fact that I conceptualised this project almost two years back, we started with the shooting only four months back. Before starting the shoot, I spoke to local artistes and it was only after seeing their positive attitude towards the film that I started the shoot.”
According to Srivastava, “Pratikaar”’s story revolves around a girl student leader. He informs, “Kanpur has been popular for student politics. “Pratikaar” also revolves around the character of a girl student leader who initially has shades of grey in her character. But later her perspective changes after seeing the wicked ways of politics.”
Proud at his achievement, Srivastava says, “When the film is released, Kanpurites will be able to relate to its characters at a personal level because the artistes in the film are popular faces from the city. For instance, Kanpur’s entrepreneur Surendra Kharbanda has acted in it whereas theatre artist Ratan Rathore is playing a role of a corrupt politician in my film.”
