Was Aamir Khan in Shahid Kapoor's ‘O’Romeo’? Vishal Bhardwaj clears the air on hidden role: 'He gave me this idea that...'
Shahid Kapoor’s crime drama ‘O’Romeo’ has been performing steadily at the box office, backed by positive word of mouth. However, audiences were puzzled to see Aamir Khan’s name in the opening disclaimer. Many assumed the superstar might appear in a cameo, but he is not part of the film on screen, prompting curiosity about his actual contribution.
Director Vishal Bhardwaj shared with Bollywood Hungama that Aamir had heard the script before production and offered a key narrative idea. “Aamir wanted to hear the script of ‘O’Romeo’. And when he heard it, he gave me this idea, that someone should be killed at a crucial point in the film,” the filmmaker shared.
Bhardwaj explained that the pivotal murder of lawyer Anjum Ansari (played by Resh Lamba) in a restaurant was Aamir’s suggestion. “Killing the lawyer Anjum Ansari in the restaurant was his idea… This suggestion changed so many things for me,” he said. The moment becomes a turning point, as protagonist Ustara (Shahid Kapoor) begins to see Afshan (Triptii Dimri) in a new light. Shocked by her capacity for vengeance, he grows drawn to her and later cares for her after she is injured.
According to Bhardwaj, that single narrative decision sets the emotional core of the film in motion. “So, the whole love story starts from there. That was a big plot point for me. And that's why I wanted to thank Aamir from the bottom of my heart,” he added.
Apart from Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, ‘O’Romeo’ also features Nana Patekar and Avinash Tiwary in key roles. The film includes special appearances by Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Disha Patani, and is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, who recently celebrated his 60th birthday on February 18.
Meanwhile, Aamir was last seen in the successful ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ (2025) and made a notable cameo in Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’. He is currently preparing for ‘Lahore 1947’, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, with Aamir reportedly appearing in an extended cameo. The film is slated for release on August 13. Prior to that, his banner will present ‘Ek Din’ on May 1, featuring Junaid Khan and marking the Hindi debut of Sai Pallavi.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
