Virat Kohli, the ‘King’ of cricket, cheekily taunted KL Rahul by recreating his ‘Kantara’ celebration, gesturing ‘this ground is mine,’ after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru won against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
What happened?
Earlier this month, KL Rahul gestured the ‘Kantara’ move after his team won against Kohli’s team in Bengaluru, to show his victory. After the celebration, Rahul stated, “This is a special place for me. That celebration was from one of my favourite movies, Kantara. So, yeah, just a tiny reminder that this ground, this turf, this home is where I have grown up, and that this is mine.”
Kohli, in response, gestured the similar move by approaching Rahul by pointing towards ‘Virat Kohli Pavilion.’ The two friends burst into laughter and hugged each other.
The sensational 'Kantara'
The ‘Kantara Move’ is when the players draw a circle with the bat and stomping in the middle, claiming the ground after the victory. The move is inspired by the 2022 film, ‘Kantara’ by Rishab Shetty.
In 2022, ‘Kantara’ came as a roaring film that quickly became a fan favourite as well as critically acclaimed. With the perfect blend of culture, traditions, mystery, and fantasy, ‘Kantara’ is appreciated beyond the borders of India. The action-thriller is about a greed for land when a man who stayed away from traditions due to an incident, fights for the ancestral land that was set to be taken away by the government officials to put an end to ‘unscientific rituals.’ The question of ‘who does the land actually belong to?’ sets the film to become a cinematic masterpiece.
The cast of the film includes Rishab Shetty as Shiva, Sapthami Gowda as Leela, Kishore as Murali, Manasi Sudhir as Kamala, Achyuth Kumar as Devendra Suttooru, Swaraj as Guruva, Vinay Bidappa as the King, and many more.
