Vir Das reveals THESE Indian spy films urged him to change ‘Happy Patel’: ‘Decided to rewrite the whole script’
Debut director Vir Das revealed that recent Bollywood spy thrillers like 'Pathaan' and 'Tiger 3' inspired him to rewrite his comedy spy film, 'Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos.' In a recent interview, actor Vir Das, now a debut director, revealed some behind-the-scenes details about his latest film ‘Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos.’ While talking about the film, he revealed that two popular films helped bring his script to life, and how, after watching them again, he had to make a lot of changes to his script.

Vir Das reveals these films made him rewrite the ‘Happy Patel’ script

He further shared that when he was pitching the film initially as an ‘Indian spy film’, the genre was still rising in the country. Now, he believes that it was time to mix comedy into the genre. He further added, “I realised this was becoming a 'thing.’ Comedy is counter-culture; mainstream culture has to exist for counter-culture to exist. Now that the mainstream spy genre is the ‘it’ genre in Indian cinema, it is time for the comedy version of it.”

Co-star Mithila Palkar also opened up about working on the film

In another interview with Mid Day, Palkar opened up about starring opposite Vir Das in his latest venture. While talking about the film, she shared that most of the scenes made her step out of her comfort zone. While she could deal with everything on set, the scene where she had to slap Vir Das’ character was the hardest for her. She shared, “So the cussing was difficult, but what was more difficult was slapping Vir. I was feeling guilty, but he motivated me to just go for it."
