Vinay Pathak's penchant for tickling funny bone is legendary. In each of his movies, one can see him in a new role, mostly comic, which he pulls off with a rare panache. His latest movie 'Island City' has made waves in international film festivals. According to the 'Bheja Fry' actor, the movie is about three contrasting individuals with chaotic lives who are trying to make sense of the world around them.
'The first time I read the script of the movie, I was simply impressed and agreed to do the role because getting a good script is rare these days,' says Pathak.

Vinay Pathak: I'm focussing on direction nowIn the movie, Pathak plays a boring corporate guy and comes across as obsequious and unadventurous who has no ambition in life. Finally, a day comes when he is made to have fun and things just go haywire. Pathak feels that for an actor like him, script is more important than working with a big banner. According to him, big banners are important, no doubt, but it is the script that gives him real challenge. 'For me, there is no dividing line between art and commercial cinema. I did 'Badlapur' last year which was a commercial movie. Give me a good role, and I am game for any genre of cinema,' says the actor.
When asked his views about art cinema, Pathak says that no one makes art cinema these days. The last time he saw an art movie was Gurvinder Singh's Punjabi movie 'Anhe Ghorey Da Daan' and then 'Chauthi Koot'.
Pathak would love to direct a movie if given a chance in the near future.
