Suhdir Mishra recently told TOI, how his next Arjun Rampal – Chitrangdha Singh starrer Inkaar was dedicated to his former partner, late Renu Saluja. And now, TOI has found out that Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s next Chitthiyaan is inspired by the life of the same film editor, who also happened to be his first wife.

Renu, sister of film actress Radha Saluja and one of the most prolific film editors in 1980s married Chopra, also an FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) alumnus in 1976. Apart from Chopra, her husband then, she also worked with Govind Nihalani, Shekhar Kapoor, Mahesh Bhatt and Sudhir Mishra.
Chopra’s film will not only trace his relationship with Renu but also the dynamics between him and Mishra later. Apparently, Renu’s involvement with Mishra had caused friction between the filmmakers who were once friends.
“The film therefore, needs two male and one female lead actor. The cast of the film will be officially announced soon. Sharman Joshi is likely to play one of the leading men,” said a source close to the project.
Reportedly, Ranbir Kapoor had been sounded off for the other lead role. However, things did not fall into place.
“Renu, a four-time national award winner for best editing, hadcontinued to work with Chopra even after she got involved with Mishra. And though there had been friction between the two filmmakers initially, the two are cordial with each other even today,” added the source.
Renu, who had been suffering from stomach cancer for a while, passed away in Mumbai on August 16, 2000.
