Veer-Zaara's 20th anniversary: Udit Narayan recalls Lata Mangeshkar's heartfelt visit to celebrate 'Main Yahaan Hoon'

Singer Udit Narayan was a key part of the 'Veer-Zaara' soundtrack, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. He sang four popular songs from the film, including 'Main Yahaan Hoon' and 'Aisa Des Hai Mera'. Udit fondly remembers working with the late Lata Mangeshkar and appreciates the beautiful music created by Javed Akhtar and Yash Chopra.

Talking to MSN, Udit reflects on his experience recording songs for Veer-Zaara, where he had the honor of singing four tracks: "Main Yahaan Hoon," "Aisa Des Hai Mera," "Yeh Hum Aa Gaye Hain Kahaan," and "Lo Aag Gayi Lodi Ve." He holds these songs dear due to their beautiful compositions by Javed Akhtar, which captured Yash Chopra's vision. Udit fondly recalls recording with the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, who would listen from outside the studio and offer encouragement. After hearing "Main Yahaan Hoon," she even visited his home to congratulate him, where they spent hours together enjoying poha and Darjeeling tea. This song remains his favorite, and Udit cherishes the memories associated with it, including a pivotal conversation with Yash Chopra that helped him deliver a memorable performance.

Narayan shares a cherished memory related to the song "Main Yahaan Hoon" from 'Veer-Zaara', recalling a conversation with Yash Chopra. The song, originally in the E scale, felt too low for him. When he expressed this to Yash, he received valuable advice about the song's romantic context, which helped him prepare quickly and deliver a beautiful performance. Udit considers "Main Yahaan Hoon" one of the highlights of his career and also thanked Yash's guidance and the emotional depth of the composition.
