Varun Dhawan drew inspiration from Sean Penn films for Badlapur

When Sriram Raghavan watched Main Tera Hero, he wasn't sure if he could 'bottle all of Varun's energy' for Badlapur which is a revenge drama that demands intensity.

But the filmmaker now feels Varun has quite deftly cracked the character of Raghu. While a lot of Varun's preparation happened internally, the actor did use a few Sean Penn films for reference to imbibe the film's soul."Varun watched movies like 21 Grams and Dead Man Walking to prepare for his role. They are grim but compelling films whose milieu is very similar to Badlapur's," says Raghavan.
