Top film directors may have busy schedules, but theyve suddenly realised the need to have a strong forum for themselves. This is exactly why theyve come together to form a group called Director for change. On their agenda is the elections for Indian Films And Television Directors Association, to be held on August 22.
These elections, like never before, will see a good participation from the top directors, who are all willing to be more involved in the associations affairs.
Directors for Change include Ashutosh Gowariker, Aziz Mirza, Raj Kumar Hirani, Madhur Bhandarkar, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Bhavna Talwar, Vivek Agnihotri, B R Ishara along with television directors like B P Singh, Rajesh Ranasinghe and Suraj Rao among others.
It was high time they got involved in the association, they say. I didnt even know where the association office was until last year, says Aziz Mirza. Once I went there, I realised there was nothing really being done. Theres a lot of potential. Of course, we could simply not bother and let things be as they are. But then we are part of the association and theres so much we can all do. In the days to come, there will be more groups joining in, Im sure, says Mirza.
With active participation now, there can be a good exchange of creative inputs through discussions and debates.
We are looking to create a healthy atmosphere, have forums where directors can get together and discuss each others work, can talk about international cinema etc, says Rakesh Omprakash Mehra. The association has been around for many years and theyve done their bit. Now, weve all come together to take that further ahead, said Rakesh Omprakash Mehra.
