Shweta Singh Kirti, the sister of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, made headlines on Thursday when she reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his intervention to expedite the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) probe into her brother's death.
In a video message, Shweta conveyed her growing concern over the prolonged 45-month wait and expressed disappointment at the lack of updates from the investigative agency regarding the progress of the case.
The video got fans on social media discussing the case again, which led to some recalling the time Rhea Chakraborty asked Home Minister Amit Shaha for a CBI probe.
Back in 2020, a month after investigations into the actor's death began, Rhea made an appeal to Shah to initiate a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. Taking to social media, Chakraborty introduced herself as the late actor's girlfriend and requested a CBI inquiry to "understand what pressures prompted Sushant to take this step."
Along with a photo of Rajput, the actress wrote, "Respected @amitshahofficial (Amit Shah) sir, I'm Sushant Singh Rajputs girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, it is now over a month since his sudden demise. I have complete faith in the government, however, in the interest of justice, I request you with folded hands to initiate a CBI enquiry into this matter. I only want to understand what pressures prompted Sushant to take this step.Yours sincerely Rhea Chakraborty#satyamevajayate."
After Rhea, several other Bollywood stars also came forward to ask the CBI to take over the case. Actors from Kangana Ranaut to Varun Dhawan, Parineeti Chopra and Kriti Sanon, among many others took to their social media handles to share their thoughts on the matter and demand #CBIforSRR.
Sushant was found dead in his Bandra home on June 14, 2020. His death was first probed by the Mumbai police, after which the CBI, ED and NCB stepped in to probe various angles.
