Throwback: When new dad Ranveer Singh shared his mother-in-law's initial reaction to his relationship with Deepika Padukone
Ranveer Singh, who recently welcomed his first child with wife Deepika Padukone, in an old interview opened up about his personal experiences with cultural and family differences in his marriage to Deepika Padukone. While promoting his movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani last year, Ranveer said that he encountered some initial challenges when he and Deepika decided to get married, especially with their families coming from different backgrounds—Ranveer’s Sindhi heritage and Deepika’s South Indian roots.
In a video from a press conference promoting his movie, Ranveer talked about his early days with Deepika and how their families, particularly Deepika’s mother, initially found it difficult to understand their relationship. He shared that when they broke the news to their parents, there was some confusion. Recalling his mother-in-law’s reaction, he said in Hindi, "Unke palle nahi pada," meaning she couldn’t quite grasp the relationship.
However, Ranveer shared that with time, his bond with his mother-in-law grew stronger. As they spent more time together, she came to see him for who he truly is, understanding his personality beyond his often quirky and energetic public image. Ranveer mentioned that once she got to know him well, she realized that he is genuine and kind-hearted. Now, according to him, they share a wonderful relationship, and she has become one of his favorite people, while he feels he’s become one of hers.
Reflecting on his journey with Deepika, Ranveer also spoke about building their first home together. Four years after their wedding, the couple purchased a luxurious house in Mumbai. Previously, after their marriage, Ranveer had moved into Deepika’s home. Now, he’s excited about their new shared space, where Deepika has taken charge of the interior design. In a recent interview, he humorously described her as a “closeted interior decorator” who approaches the home decor like a young girl with a dollhouse. He expressed admiration for her dedication to creating a beautiful and meaningful space for them.
The couple’s journey, from blending two different cultural worlds to now making a cozy home together, reflects the love and understanding they’ve built over time.
