Throwback Thursday: Late Rajiv Kapoor on looking like his uncle Shammi Kapoor: People brainwashed me into behaving like him
Late Rajiv Kapoor had once opened up about being compared to his uncle Shammi Kapoor as he looked like him. According to him, people around him brainwashed him into behaving like the ‘Teesri Manzil’ actor.
In a throwback interview with a news portal, Rajiv had reportedly said that it is a curious thing, but he looked a lot like his uncle. Everyone who worked on the film; including the technicians, the director, the choreographer, the music director; they tried to portray his character like Shammi Kapoor.
Elaborating further, Rajiv added that because they'd all worked with him before, they made him behave like him. The actor added that as he was a young lad then, he went with the flow. According to him, people around him brainwashed him. However, as he grew older, and gained more experience, he realised that he should have crafted his own space.
Rishi Kapoor, in his book, had mentioned about worrying about his brother Rajiv Kapoor. He wrote, ‘I worry a lot about Chimpu (Rajiv's nickname) and feel sad that he has never been able to realize his true potential. He is the most talented of us and has an uncanny ear for music. He plays the piano superbly without ever learning it.’
Rajiv Kapoor breathed his last in Mumbai in February 9 after he suffered a heart-attack. He was 58. The late actor's last rites were performed at Chembur crematorium in Mumbai.
