Think big, go small

Sonia Aggarwal is back on the small screen this time. Chennai Times on what prompted her to make this choice.

It was Divya first. Then, it was Anitha. And now, it��ll be Radhika. After portraying roles successfully in films like Kadhal Kondein (remember Dhanush shouting Divya Divya?) and 7G Rainbow Colony, actress Sonia Aggarwal is all set to debut on the small screen with Naanal, a serial for a private television channel. Sonia��s hoping that Radhika �� her name in the serial �� will become as famous as the names in her movies.
Ask her why she chose to opt for the all-too-familiar route and she��s quick to retort.��It��s just that small screen suits me a lot after marriage,�� she says matter-of-factly, ��I can manage my time better and pay more attention to my family.��
Priorities must have shifted from films to family for the pretty lady who dominated Kollywood for a brief while before her marriage to director Selvaraghavan, a couple of years ago. Having enjoyed her break, she promises to be back with more zeal and energy.
��No glam roles for me from now,�� she stresses, ��I��m looking at good scripts ��even my husband doesn��t mind producing them if I��m interested! I��ll be choosy and will try to experiment with art movies.��

Now, that��s all fine for a quote��s sake but where will she find such scripts in an industry driven by commercial interests. ��A commercial film with an art feel would do as well,�� she adds without hesitation. So, does that mean that she��s going to go all out to prove that she is an actress of merit? ��Ah, not like that,�� she explains, ��God has given me a nice face and expressions that come naturally. I ought to put it to good use.��

What roles would she prefer? ��I would love to do a negative role,�� she declares. Admitting it does sound a bit clich��d, she elaborates, ��Like the one Dhanush played in Kadhal Kondein �� that genre of acting. I keep telling Selva about it all the time but he doesn��t think it will suit me!��
Mastering the language is a big challenge when it comes to the small screen as most actresses have made it into the hearts of the masses only after learning it. Has Sonia learnt Tamil fully? ��I can understand but can��t speak fluently yet,�� she says, ��It��s so funny at home as my mother-in-law talks to me in Tamil and I understand and respond in Tamil!��
