Indian Prime Minister
Indira Gandhi's assassination on October 31, 1984, sent shock waves across the country. The upcoming film, '31st October', which features
Soha Ali Khan and
Vir Das in lead roles, revolves around its aftermath. Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Shivaji Lotan Patil ' who won the honour for the Marathi film Dhag ' it follows the travails of a Sikh family's fight for survival during the anti-Sikh riots in the Capital that broke out after the incident.
The trailer has already prompted cine-goers to sit up and take notice of the film.
The movie has won appreciation at the Vancouver International Film Festival, London Indian Film Festival and many other national and international platforms. Since it is based on a true incident, the makers shot it at real locations, including Delhi and Punjab. Given the sensitive subject, they also faced several hurdles right from completing the shoot to getting censor clearance. However, they are happy that their efforts have paid off and the trailer has evoked a positive response.
Kumar Mangat of Panorama Studios that is presenting the movie says, 'We are glad to be associated with 31st October as the subject is strong and the film is for the global audience.' Writer-producer
Harry Sachdeva, who has backed the project, says, 'We are happy with the response to the trailer. Our efforts have been appreciated and we look forward to the film's success.' Co-producer Anand Prakash echoes the sentiment. Shivaji Lotan Patil adds, 'I'm proud to direct this movie as the subject is interesting and each experience during the shoot has been inspiring.'
'31st October', produced by Magical Dreams Productions, releases on October 7.
