Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination on October 31, 1984, sent shock waves across the country. The upcoming film, '31st October', which features Soha Ali Khan and Vir Das in lead roles, revolves around its aftermath. Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Shivaji Lotan Patil ' who won the honour for the Marathi film Dhag ' it follows the travails of a Sikh family's fight for survival during the anti-Sikh riots in the Capital that broke out after the incident. The trailer has already prompted cine-goers to sit up and take notice of the film.

The movie has won appreciation at the Vancouver International Film Festival, London Indian Film Festival and many other national and international platforms. Since it is based on a true incident, the makers shot it at real locations, including Delhi and Punjab. Given the sensitive subject, they also faced several hurdles right from completing the shoot to getting censor clearance. However, they are happy that their efforts have paid off and the trailer has evoked a positive response.
