' was launched amidst much excitement this week. The trailer positions modern day Laila as a big flirt and tease, while Majnu is all things crazy and mad with the backdrop being the beautiful locales of Kashmir. The film stars newcomers Avinash Tiwary (Majnu) and Tripti Dimri (Laila).
Imtiaz revealed how he started writing this passionate love story almost 10 years ago, with no plans of actually bringing it on the silver screen because it wasn’t a typical ‘safe’ film. “It’s risky, which is what excited Ekta the most,” he said with a smile, adding that both Ekta and he were keen to cast only newcomers with no filmy background or famous surnames.
Ekta revealed that years ago, her father Jeetendra — a tailor’s son — was given a chance in Bollywood and he went on to become one of its most successful actors. Hence, casting newcomers in Laila Majnu was her way of giving back. The trailer has garnered positive response, with lead actors Avinash and Tripti being appreciated for their chemistry. 'Laila Majnu', which releases on September 7, is presented by Imtiaz Ali, directed by Sajid Ali and produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Preety
