The Deols are going through contrasting emotions. Bollywood legend Dharmendra, and his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, are exhausted with their extensive travel to promote Nitin Manmohan’s One up Entertainment and Samir Karnik’s Top Angle Productions’ Yamla Pagla Deewana releasing worldwide today. They’re also excited with the response they have been getting from people.
Says Sunny, “Wherever we have been in India and overseas people have come forward in huge numbers to greet us.
Honestly, Papa, Bobby and I are in a bit of a daze. We’ve been to Moradabad, Nagpur, Indore, Chandigarh, Bangalore and Delhi. I was in the US for another film shoot. And we have been greeted by huge crowds of 15,000 to 50,000 people in most cities. All of them just try and shake hands with us, touch us; it is as if they want to engulf us with their warmth, their love. It is overwhelming.
At airports and hotel lobbies people come forward and say, ‘We want to see Yamla Pagla Deewana. We wish you luck.’ It is as if this is our family’s first film. The people’s love is almost like a blessing.’’
Bobby, too, is emotionally moved with the reactions of the janta; he is also thrilled with the way the advance booking of YPD is looking. “I’m hoping and praying that this film really works big-time,’’ says Bobby. Dharmendra, meanwhile, is completely charged with the applause and accolades he has been getting during the promotional tours. The 75-year-old actor says, “It is only the love of people that has made me last 50 years. I’m fortunate I’ve got a further lease of life with YPD.’’
This once, it isn’t only the family that is feeling the buzz. The trade is also upbeat especially because the release coincides with festivals like Lodi (North), Sankranti (Maharashtra and Gujarat) and Pongal (South). Trade guru Taran Adarsh feels the Deols can be rest assured that YPD will be their big ticket venture.
Says Taran, “From the time the first promo aired on television channels people have been waiting for this film. In the last couple of days the buzz has reached a crescendo on internet sites and social networks. YPD is getting these reactions because it promises to be a full-blown entertainer.’’
