'The Bengal Files': Anupam Kher unveils first look as Mahatma Gandhi, reveals prep for the role, says 'no prosthetics were used here'

Anupam Kher took to his X account to treat his fans with the new look from his next film. The veteran actor is set to play the role of Mahatma Gandhi in Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Bengal Files.' And on the occasion of Independence Day, he posted his behind-the-scenes avatar from the set, leaving everyone amazed.

Anupam Kher dropped a monochrome picture of him as Mahatma Gandhi on his X account. Along with the post, he wrote, "Some roles change your thoughts, your habits, your inner self. Playing #GandhiJi is one such role. Sharing it with you all for the first time my character from @vivekagnihotri’s #TheBengalFiles! No prosthetics was used here! Jai Hind!"

Anupam Kher's prep for his role as Gandhiji

The actor went through intense preparation for his role. For the same, he gave up alcohol and non-vegetarian food, reduced weight, and adopted a simple lifestyle. On Rajat Sharma's 'Aap Ki Adalat,' he revealed that playing the role is a dream for any actor. He said, "I had to toil hard for one year for this role. Besides losing weight, I stopped having a non-vegetarian diet and alcohol for the last year, since August, to internalize Gandhi's role for this movie."

Meanwhile, Anupam Kher was last seen in the film titled 'Tanvi The Great.' It also starred Iain Glen, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, Pallavi Joshi, Karan Tacker, and Nassar. The movie was released in theaters on July 18, 2025. It clashed with Mohit Suri's 'Saiyaara,' starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda.
