Tabu is set to return to South cinema after a gap of six years as the acclaimed actor, who has delivered memorable performances across industries, is now part of a new pan-India project that brings her back to familiar territory.
Her last appearance in South cinema was in
Allu Arjun's 'Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo', and this upcoming film marks a significant return for her to south cinema.
New film with strong ensemble
Tabu will next be seen in filmmaker Puri Jagannadh’s action thriller Slumdog — 33 Temple Road which also features
Vijay Sethupathi and Samyuktha in key roles.
Currently in post-production, the film is expected to release later this year.
Co-Stars Praise Her Presence
During the shoot, Tabu’s presence left a strong impression on her co-stars. Samyuktha, who shared screen space with her, spoke about the actor’s natural ease and comfort on set.
Recalling her experience, she said told Mid Day, “She is a Hyderabad girl! Being the least experienced person there, I would listen to Zarina [Wahab] ma’am and Tabu ma’am talk in Telugu. I heard so many stories from them. I felt very included. There wasn’t any vibe of ‘You need to be away from us because we’re talking.’ I always felt a sense of inclusivity, which I loved."
A personal connection to Hyderabad
For Tabu, this film is not just another project but also a return to her roots. Born and raised in Hyderabad, she shares a deep connection with the region and its film industry.
Beyond her current project, Tabu continues to be remembered for her iconic collaborations, particularly with
Irrfan Khan. Their on-screen pairing was widely appreciated.
Films like Maqbool, The Namesake, and Haider showcased their ability to bring complex emotions to screen and recently, Babil Khan shared a personal moment involving Tabu, revealing that she had gifted him a kurta, which he wore on Eid.
On the other hand, Tabu was last seen in the TV series 'Dune: Prophecy'.
