KOLKATA: Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday expressed hope that the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) would cater to the needs of the cine world under the able guidance of noted filmmaker Shakti Samanta.

"i hope that the srfti, though much younger than the film and television institute, pune, would be able to make its presence felt in the cine world shortly and with this object in view, renowned filmmaker shakti samanta has been persuaded to take over the charge of the institute," swaraj said addressing srfti students, faculty members during a visit there.

the minister, now in the city on a two-day visit, went round the srfti's different sections, including its studio, editing room and state-of-the-art sound recording system. she said entertainment-related courses, like tv, air, film, theatre productions had great potential to attract the younger generation looking for lucrative careers. shakti samanta described the srfti as best film institute in the country so far as the availability of ultra-modern equipment and sophisticated facilities were concerned. he said the facilities available in the srfti would be of immense help to filmmakers from all parts of the country.
