Swara Bhasker has ignited a debate with her recent comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict, criticising what she perceives as hypocrisy in people's reactions to the situation. As the conflict between Israel and Hamas militants escalated, Swara Bhasker took to her Instagram Stories to share her perspective on the matter.
In her Instagram post, Swara Bhasker expressed her view that those who are shocked and horrified by Hamas' attacks on Israel should also consider the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She highlighted issues such as the forcible occupation of Palestinian homes, forced evictions, settler violence, and the blockade of Gaza, as well as the decades-long tension between Israelis and Palestinians.
While Swara Bhasker’s comments have drawn attention, she is not the only Indian celebrity to react to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Kangana Ranaut also expressed her opinion on social media, standing in solidarity with Israel and sharing her distress at the violence against Israeli women.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Swara Bhasker has been critical of Israel. In 2021, during the escalating violence in East Jerusalem, she referred to Israel as an 'apartheid state' and voiced her support for Palestine, emphasising the cause as an anti-imperialist, anti-colonial, and anti-apartheid issue that should concern people globally.
