During the session, Sushmita recalled the invaluable lessons instilled in her by the Miss Universe organization, emphasizing the importance of honoring commitments, no matter the circumstances. “At the age of 18 there, I was taught that even if you have a fever, cold, fractured leg, or anything else, there will always be three doctors and oxygen cylinders in your limousine, but you will never say no to work. We will always go to work and honour our commitments,” she shared. The Bollywood actress and beauty queen also recounted the physical toll her journey took on her. Shortly after winning the crown, Sushmita battled chickenpox and malaria in the United States but continued to fulfill her work obligations without fail. “At 18 years of age, I was down to chickenpox in the US. What a way to start your Miss Universe journey!” she quipped.

Despite enduring a 104-degree fever and grappling with other illnesses, Sushmita showed remarkable determination. “I went through a very trying time and then went to work every day after that. I had a 104 fever, Malaria, and every Indian problem that you can imagine in the US, and I went to work every day. That taught me it’s doable,” she reflected.
