Vivek Oberoi got instant success in the industry as he made his debut with 'Company'. What further took his popularity to another level was 'Saathiya'. While stardom came to him quickly, the actor phased a huge backseat in his career as he lost out on a lot of work after his feud with
Salman Khan over
Aishwarya Rai. It was a dark phase of his career which came after he said at a press conference that
Salman has threatened him.
While Vivek has graciously come out of that phase now, in retrospect he feels it was all unnecessary. Now, in an interview, Vivek's father
Suresh Oberoi has also spoken about it and lauded his son's strength for going through this phase. Suresh said in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, "It is his strength that he got through this. If it was someone else, they would have become an alcoholic or perhaps a drug addict. People were really against him. Media, and the people in the film industry, even the actors… sometimes when people get successful very quickly, others can’t take it.”
Earlier Vivek had spoken about and said that it can be frustrating when someone is having back-to-back hits and then is suddenly sitting at home for 14 months. But he diverted his attention to philanthropy and business to get over this phase.
In the same interview, Suresh Oberoi confessed that he would sit outside producer's offices to launch Vivek. "I would struggle. I would sit outside offices with Vivek's photos in my hand. Ram Gopal Varma’s office and all these other offices. It was a second struggle for me. Then, ultimately, Ramu (Ram Gopal Varma) gave him his first film."
After getting through that phase, Vivek got married to Priyanka Alva in 2010. They've been happily married for so many years and have a son and daughter. Vivek was last seen in Rohit Shetty's 'Indian Police Force'.
