For someone who’s a teetotaler in real life, it is not an easy task to play an alcoholic. But Sunny Deol has convincingly played such role in many of his earlier films.
And for Radhika Rao-Vinay Sapru’sI Love New Year, produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, the actor has shot an entire track — Gud Naal Ishq Meetha — while playing an alcoholic. It shows Sunny’s character in high spirits as he celebrates New Year with his friends and announces his engagement.

Says the actor, “Well, it’s a mood song where my friends and me are all excited because I am going to settle down with the girl I love. When a person gets drunk, he is not in his senses and that’s exactly how I have been captured on screen. He is completely talli in love.”
So was it difficult playing a drunken man? “The moment you capture the pulse, things automatically fall into place. It is like playing a game where you just get into the flow. Plus, I had my directors, who kept a check and took re-takes till the shot was okay,” he replies, adding, “Believe me, I am being offered more roles that require me to play a drunkard and that’s really strange because I don’t drink. I have seen my dad and lots of people around me getting drunk and you feel the intoxication even if you don’t drink. Aur phir unki baate sunke mere ko bhi chadh jaati thi.”
I Love New Year, produced by T-Series, releases April 26.
