Suniel gets a unique b'day gift
Suniel has been signed up to be the brand ambassador for hockey in India.
In a strange coincidence at at time when Shah Rukh Khan is getting rave reviews for playing the women’s national hockey coach in his new film, it is Bollywood macho man Suniel Shetty who has been signed up to be the official brand ambassador for hockey in India.
A hush-hush announcement on this to be made on August 17 in Chandigarh, is expected to give the neglected game a big boost in the country.
Suniel acknowledged the honour to BT, “Yes, it’s true I received a letter from the Indian Hockey Federation. I suppose they relate me to fitness, wellness and sporting activities. And they hope to revive hockey as the national game.”
However, he admitted he isn’t an avid hockey fan. “I’m a cricket man. But I’ve played hockey in fits and starts. I’m doing this because of my love for all sports. And I’m accepting no money. It’s just such an honour to be associated with the game.”
Suniel also admitted it was a coincidence he was chosen for this honour in the same week when Shah Rukh Khan’s film on hockey was released.
“It is my birthday gift,” the actor said, “I turned 46 this week, but the Indian Hockey Federation believes age is no bar for any game. It’s always about physical fitness. India was numero uno in hockey. They want my help to bring it back.”
