Sujata Mehta reveals Sridevi was heartbroken after breakup with Mithun Chakraborty: 'They were madly in love...'

Bollywood’s veteran stars Mithun Chakraborty and Sridevi made headlines for their rumoured relationship in the past. Now, years later, actress Sujata Mehta has opened up about their story, stating how the late actress was emotionally broken.

In a recent interview with the YouTube channel Hindi Rush, Sujata Mehta addressed the rumoured relationship between Mithun and Sridevi. The 'Pratigyaat' actress mentioned there were some talks about the late actress being married to Mithun. However, Sujata never asked Sridevi about it directly but observed that she was 'so disturbed yet so professional.' The actress always focused on her shoots, acting as if no one else existed. After the shoot, she would go and sit quietly in a corner, and Sujata chose not to disturb her.




“Keh sakte hai ki breakup ne tod diya tha Sri ko. They were madly in love, I suppose. They got married, so na? Shaadi bhi hui thi. Aisa bolte hai. (One could say the breakup had broken Sri. They were madly in love, I suppose. They even got married, didn’t they? That’s what people say.),” she stated.

Mithun was reportedly in a romantic relationship with Sridevi, although they always dismissed any claims about their relationship or reports of a secret marriage. Speculation suggests that their bond became public in the late 1980s. At that point, Sridevi was focused on solidifying her career in the film industry, while Mithun was already married to Yogeeta Bali. Interestingly, before tying the knot with Yogeeta, Mithun had been married to Helena Luke.

Mithun and Sridevi allegedly crossed paths at a professional gathering, and their connection soon blossomed into a romantic relationship. This eventually led to rumours of a covert marriage, although it was never officially confirmed. Mithun, who was married to Yogeeta at the time, was reportedly captivated by Sridevi’s charm. Their alleged relationship, and the subsequent secret marriage, is believed to have lasted from 1985 to 1988.

In a past interview with News 18, Mithun was questioned about the rumours surrounding the 'Nagina' actress and whether he ever developed feelings for another woman after his marriage. When asked about the alleged secret wedding, he cryptically replied that he was unaware of it and noted that he looked at every woman with good intentions.

Reportedly, Yogeeta had attempted suicide after learning about their rumoured relationship, and Sridevi eventually realised Mithun would not divorce his wife. In 1987, Boney Kapoor became close to Sridevi.
