Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, ex-wife of filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, once jokingly said she wanted to marry director Ram Gopal Varma. However, Varma took it seriously, called her to his office, and tried to convince her against the idea.

In her autobiography Drama Queen, Suchitra shared a humorous incident where she joked about marrying Ram Gopal Varma. After texting him, "Will you marry me?" he panicked and called her to his office, trying to convince her against the idea.



In her book, Suchitra revealed that her proposal to RGV was meant as a joke, but it left him scared. Varma responded by stating that he only values women for physical reasons, not for their intellect. Reflecting on the incident, Suchitra found his reaction amusing.



The actress shared that the filmmaker was frightened by her joke and called her to his office. He told her she was a nice person, but he was a terrible match. Despite her clarifying it was just a joke, he continued to take it seriously, making the situation even funnier.

Suchitra Krishnamoorthi collaborated with Ram Gopal Varma on films like My Wife's Murder and Rann. She was married to Shekhar Kapur from 1999 to 2007, but their relationship ended bitterly, with Suchitra accusing him of being unfaithful. Reports suggest she wrote a poem about a "maneater" who stole her husband, later confirming she meant Preity Zinta.

In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Preity Zinta reportedly told Suchitra Krishnamoorthi that she was the "number one actress" while Suchitra was just a homemaker. She also suggested that Suchitra needed to see a psychiatrist. In response, Suchitra expressed that she didn’t feel the need to take offense, emphasizing that she was proud of her role as a full-time mom for 20 years.
