Subhash Ghai has directed several memorable films over the decades and his popular works include 'Karz', 'Ram Lakhan', 'Saudagar' and 'Pardes' and majority of the films had a unique touch in it. Now, the veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai has sparked nostalgia by revisiting his 1999 film 'Taal'. He shared a still from the movie and questioned whether a sequel would work in today’s cinema. Ghai opened up on the bold storytelling choices that made the film different from typical commercial fare.

Subhash Ghai’s nostalgic reflection

Subhash Ghai posted a still on his social media handle featuring Akshaye Khanna and Anil Kapoor. He reflected on the unique elements he brought into 'Taal'. The director wrote "PEACE OR PASSION ? COSMIC OR COSMETIC ? INNER OR OUTER ? Is the story of TAAL - a film i dared to make With no villain. No sex. No violence Is story even GenZ n alpha love it today. N become a memorable. Can we make TAAL 2 ? Today Is a question in my mind." He emphasized how 'Taal' avoided conventional tropes. The film still connects with younger viewers like Gen Z and Alpha generations.

About 'Taal' story and cast

'Taal' released in 1999 under Subhash Ghai’s direction. It had actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Akshaye Khanna and Anil Kapoor in lead roles. The plot revolves around the romance between a village girl who is named Mansi and wealthy Manav.
Their relationship faces challenges from social differences and personal ambitions. Anil Kapoor played the eccentric music producer Vikrant Kapoor.A.R. Rahman composed the music for 'Taal'. Popular tracks include “Taal Se Taal Mila,” “Ishq Bina,” “Ramta Jogi” and “Kahin Aag Lage Lag Jaaye”. These songs remain popular even today. Interestingly Shahid Kapoor appeared as a background dancer in “Kahin Aag Lage Lag Jaaye” before his acting debut.
