Its off. Everyones kissed and made up, Bollywood producers and multiplex owners have reached an agreement, and youll finally be able to enjoy the multiplex experience again from next Friday. In fact, from next weekend, audiences are going to be swamped by films thatve had to be held back because of the strike. Now, the jostling is between producers for release dates.
Big Cinemas took the first step, and then the other multiplexes followed.
Im happy that better sense has prevailed and now we are going to gear up to promote our movies, says Mukesh Bhatt, chairman, United Producers and Distributors Forum.
The producers had asked for an equal revenue sharing agreement throughout the weeks that the movie runs, but now the revenue is going to be shared in the ratio of 50:50 (first week, producers:exhibitors), 42.5:57.5 (second week), 37.5: 62.5 (third week) and 30:70 (fourth week).
Yes, the strike has been called off and movies are going to start releasing from June 12. There is going to be no disparity based on the budget of the movie, says Tushar Dhingra of Big Cinemas.
