Star woos viewers with post-KBC treat

new delhi: star will come out with a slew of new programmes in january as part of its post-kbc offering. on view would be an assortment of game shows, talk shows, soaps and musical events. amitabh bachchan-starrer kaun banega crorepati, after a 300 episode-run, makes way for neena gupta-hosted kamzor kadii kaun on tuesday and an indian version of chicago hope, sanjivini, on wednesday.the post-kbc phase kicks off on december 25 with the neena gupta show, based on popular bbc show, the weakest link. the show, with a prize money of rs 25 lakh, would see a group of strangers battle for survival. produced by cinevista, the indian version of chicago hope, sanjivini, would make a debut on january 16 at 9 pm. the popular cbs produced show, based on goings-on in a hospital, has had a successful run worldwide since 1994. star is currently running the original english series on star world. interestingly, doordarshan had earlier aired a programme similar to chicago hope, titled lifeline. incidently, kaun banega crorepati is getting an extended run till january 8. star had earlier said that the game show would take a break from january 1. it is expected to be back by august next year. also on view is a new-look sunday line-up on star plus. that includes several programmes from hfcl-nine repertoire, such as a show for children, bol baby bol and yeh hai right price. siddharth kak's popular culture and travel digest surabhi, also makes a come-back on star plus on sundays. interestingly, all the new sunday shows have already had a run on doordarshan. kbc junior at 10 am on sundays will be replaced by bol baby bol, a show in which children ask questions to adults. this will be followed by a game show, yeh hai right price, that is based on test of consumer knowledge. a talk show, anchored by reneka shahane, to discuss women-related issues and marital problems, would be on air in the first week of january. also to make a debut in january are two soaps, wajood, and eeena meena deeka. the republic day offering on star plus would be jp dutta's border. also on the anvil are a series of musical and award events. the hero honda indian television academy awards in the first week would be followed up by raymond international fashion awards, the best of screen awards, the annual star screen awards, and a musical concert hosted by javed akhtar. as per the latest org-marg television rating points (november 26 to december 2), star plus has 9 programmes in the top 10.
