Sriram Raghavan's latest film, 'Merry Christmas' has been receiving positive reviews from the audience and the critics alike. The film brought together Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi for the first time.
In an interview with Indian Express, the filmmaker spilled the beans on the much-talked about climax of the movie. Sriram revealed that the original scene had dialogues, deviating from the book's ending, which he found too subdued for the cinematic feel he desired.

The script included a line where the cop mentions witnessing a Christmas miracle or suspecting lies.

However, just days before the shoot, the South team suggested going dialogue-less for the ending. This idea intrigued Raghavan, and although he initially envisioned background sounds like a creaking fan and typewriter in an old police station, the editor, Pooja Ladha Surti, surprised him by presenting a version without dialogues or music, relying on ambient sounds. The filmmaker was impressed with the impact it created, especially with the last shot coinciding with the title reveal.

The director also shared insights about Katrina's character in the movie. According to him, when he gave her a narration and the book to read, she just fell in love with the story. After that it was just fairly simple, where she waa adding her bits. Sriram recalled telling her that whatever you say, people will have to take it at face value. Whether they believe your character or don’t.

Raghavan added that in thrillers and especially coming from him now, the lingering feeling is, ‘There is something more to this.’ He stated that he was hoping the viewers would speculate and start writing their own scripts in their heads.
