DUBAI: Indian embassy officials here are working closely with the local authorities to ensure that the mortal remains of Bollywood icon Sridevi, who passed away in Dubai last night, is taken to Mumbai on Sunday.

“We have been receiving several queries regarding the sad and untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi in Dubai last night. The consulate is in constant touch with

Dubai police

to expedite the formalities so that the mortal remains can depart for India as soon as possible,” the embassy said.

“The ambassador and consul general have also conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends and are regularly updating them on the procedures,” the embassy said.

The formalities include getting permission from the Bur Dubai police station which will be granted after the death certificate is produced before the cops.

The actor suffered a fatal heart attack at a hotel room in Dubai's Emirates Towards yesterday and was rushed to Rashid hospital where she was declared brought dead.

After the formalities with the local authorities are over, Sridevi’s body is likely to be flown to India in a special flight.

, tweeted his condolences to the family stating, "Absolutely shocked to get the report about the untimely demise of #Sridevi. Conveyed my condolences to the family. Our consulate in Dubai is working with local authorities to provide all possible assistance."
