Sonu Kakkar announces emotional split from siblings Neha Kakkar and Tony Kakkar: ‘I am no longer their sister’

In an unexpected and emotional social media post, singer Sonu Kakkar declared that she is no longer a sister to her younger siblings, singer Neha Kakkar and music composer Tony Kakkar. The announcement has left fans stunned and has triggered a wave of speculation, especially since it comes shortly after Sonu’s absence from Tony’s birthday celebrations on April 9 — a detail that many had already found curious.

Taking to Twitter and Instagram, Sonu wrote, “Deeply devastated to inform you all that I am no longer a SISTER to the two talented Superstars, Tony Kakkar and Neha Kakkar. This decision of mine comes from a place of deep emotional pain, and I am truly disheartened today.”



Online reactions question authenticity

The post immediately went viral, with social media users weighing in — and many casting doubt on the authenticity of the statement. One user commented, “Who calls Tony a Superstar except a sister? You can never guess what is happening with this family. It may as well be a PR stunt for their next music album.”


Another remarked, “Talented? Superstar? Anyways, it seems like a publicity stunt.”

Some netizens even poked fun, suggesting the term “superstar” was a stretch. “Two talented superstars? I wonder who she is referring to — definitely not her siblings. Tony Kakkar used to sing better before he changed his style,” one post read.

A fourth comment echoed the sentiment, “FAKE as everyone knows Tony is not a superstar — that too, talented?”

Family ties in music now under scrutiny

The Kakkar siblings have had a long history of collaborating in the music industry. Sonu, who has been a judge on singing reality shows and appeared on Coke Studio India, has worked closely with both Neha and Tony on several tracks. She has lent her voice to songs composed by Tony like Akhiyan Nu Rehn De, Urban Munda, Funky Mohabbat, Phir Teri Bahon Mein, and Booty Shake, with some tracks also featuring Neha.




The trio has also performed together on several platforms, including a live performance of Story of Kakkars on MTV Unplugged, which chronicled their journey from modest beginnings to musical success. In addition to this, these three also performed the popular track, Mile Ho Tum Humko during &TV's show Music Ki Pathshala.

Sonu and Neha had previously collaborated on hit songs like London Thumakda from Queen, the Blue Theme from Blue, and the folk-inspired track Chamba.

While Sonu’s post hints at emotional turmoil, the exact reason behind the fallout remains unknown. Neither Neha Kakkar nor Tony Kakkar has responded publicly to the announcement. Fans are now waiting for an official statement from the younger siblings, even as rumors continue to swirl about what may have led to this family rift. Earlier in an interview with ETimes, Sonu Kakkar said, "I am really proud of them (Neha and Tony) and I have never felt sidelined at all. “I don’t even feel side lined at all. Success comes to everyone who works hard. It came to me as well. I feel successful every day because I stay very happy. The definition of success for me is happiness."
